History
Northside refers to the area immediately north of campus and and typically east of Shattuck Avenue or Spruce Street.
It does not include the northern portion of Shattuck aka the Gourmet Ghetto, which is located in the neighborhood called "North Berkeley". UC Berkeley students have a habit of dividing the world into "on Northside" and "on Southside", so the term may also be used in Berkeley to reference any point on Earth located north of the line of latitude passing through California Hall.
