BURTON MOODY, LONG ILL, DIES
Burton F, Moody, 77, died at his home, 5 1/2 VanBuren street, at 9:30 o'clock last night after an illness of several months. Mr. Moody had been confined to his bed for the last nine weeks.
His body will repose at Fortune Funeral Home where there will be Odd Fellows services at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday with Rev. E. Holt Hughes, of the Bloomingdale Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Pine Ridge Cemetery.
Mr. Moody was born on December 29, 1878, the son of Fayette and Lucy Dudley Moody. He was a great grandson of Jacob Moody, the first white settler in the Adirondack region.
Mr. Moody was a contractor and builder well known in and around Saranac Lake for over 50 years. He took his first contracting job at the age of 16. As his two younger brothers, Lee and Kenneth, became old enough to do carpenter work, the three worked together and became known as the Moody Brothers Contractors and Builders.
On July 4, 1898 Mr. Moody married Ollie E. Reed, of Clintonville. The couple was divorced in 1928.
He was an experienced hunter and woodsman and a member of the Saranac Lake Fish and Game Club. He was also one of the oldest members and the oldest in years of membership of the Saranac Lake Odd Fellows Lodge No. 659.
Mr. Moody is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Mildred H. Smith, two grandsons, Bud M. Smith and Charles R. Smith, and two great grandsons Gary Allen Smith and Daryl Burton Smith, all of Saranac Lake. There are three sisters, Mrs. Hattie Mohr and Mrs. Minnie Devine, of Miami, Fla., and Mrs. Blanche Knapp, of Leominster, Mass.; three brothers Kenneth E. Moody and Leon R. Moody, of Saranac Lake, and Ward H. Moody, of Newburgh, also several nephews, one niece and one great niece.
