Gertrude Marion (Clark) Montville

WESTPORT - Gertrude Marion (Clark) Montville, 93, of Westport died Friday Feb. 20, 1998 at Horace Nye Home in Elizabethtown, where she resided since 1990.

Born on April 13, 1904 in Madrid, she was the eldest child of Herbert Keyes Clark and Mary Jane (Dowdle) Clark.

She grew up in Saranac Lake and worked nine summers at Louis and Florence Marshall's Cottage 5 at Knollwood on Lower Saranac Lake. On Aug. 27, 1936 she married Amady Nelson Montville in Saranac Lake.

She cared for Florence Billikopf and graduated from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Business College in 1925. She was the secretary and filer at George L. Starks' Hardware Store in Saranac Lake for 11 years.

They lived in Westport. Gertrude was a past member of the Altar and Rosary Society and cared much for family, friends, religion, nature, recipes, cards, sports, and science.

She was predeceased by her husband, Amady, in 1970; three brothers, George, Herbert, and James; a sister, Irene; three stepsons, John, Ralph, and Harold; and two stepdaughters, Ruth and Helen.

Survivors include: four daughters, Mary Kyper of Bedford, Mass., Ann Ryan of Land O' Lakes, Fla. and Westport, Sister Nancy Montville, SSJ of Rochester and Westport, and Sandra Mitchell of Peru; a stepdaughter, Mina Jannetty of Waterbury, Conn.; a brother, Francis Clark of Baton Rouge, La.; 10 grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Winifred Clark of Saranac Lake and Ruth Miller of Syracuse; 12 step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; 23 step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews…
