Reiners celebrate 50th

RAINBOW LAKE — Mr. and Mrs. Joseph C. Reiners, Sr. of Van Voorhis Avenue, Rochester, and Rainbow Lake, recently celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

The couple met as students at Antioch College and were married in 1926 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Reiners spent his childhood in Springfield, Massachusetts where he was an outstanding athlete. He worked in procedure and control in Eastman Kodak's Camera Works, and later with the United States Can Company. Mrs. Reiners, the former Carol Elder of Rochester, worked for a time in the office of the assistant superintendent of Schools in Rochester.

Reiners' life work was with children. For many years he taught physical education in Rochester public and parochial schools, initiating folk dances into these programs. In 1944 he and Mrs. Reiners founded the Adirondack Swim Camp, a private summer boys' camp on Jones Pond designed to promote the child's growth both physically and emotionally. The camp continues under the direction of their son.

Since their retirement, the Reiners have traveled extensively including trips to the West and Southwest, several trips to the Virgin Islands and trips to Spain and the French, Swiss and Italian Alps.

A celebration dinner will be given by their sons and families. Included will be nine grandchildren and one fiancee to assure continuation of their time honored matrimonial tradition.
