Journal of Outdoor Life, February, 1909 A Sherrill's bill to Wallace Murray dated October 2, 1903 Sherrill's Grocery, C. L. Sherrill, proprietor, sold "fancy and staple groceries, fresh fruit and vegetables" at 48 Main Street in Saranac Lake from at least 1895 to 1909. H. Ford Towner came from Willsboro to work at the grocery to accept the position.

…Another work of genius [in the window decorations for Winter Carnival] is that in the show window of Sherrill’s store.  It is an old fishman, dressed in fur coat and cap, sitting on a stool on the ice, fishing. Around him are spread his fishing outfit, hooks, sinkers, lines, tackle box, pipe, tobacco, and even the bottle of “84" is not forgotten This is the handiwork of Mr. Wesley Jordan, of Sherrill’s store
